Bye, Bye Macaroni Salad - Staircase Makeover!

What a title! I bet you're wondering what inspired that title...our staircase of all things! Well more specifically the carpet on our staircase. When we first laid eyes on 517, we knew that the carpet on the stairs (and the whole second floor) would have to go and honestly in that moment we put a pretty high priority on getting rid of it but we took possession almost 5 years ago and only this past January did we start taking ACTUAL steps to get rid of it.

And I guess I still haven't explained the macaroni salad thing. Well we have always thought that the carpet strongly resembled the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) macaroni salad. You know that creamy colour with little bits of green and red pepper (at least I hope it's pepper though I am not 100% sure!)?! Here, see for yourself!

See what I'm talking about?! So why did it take us so long to do something about this? Well first of all, LIFE but also lack of inspiration. And then I found this The Happy Staircase by Centsational Girl And finally I had found my inspiration. A project I could do myself and for what seemed like a reasonable cost?! I'm in!

My husband wasted no time in taking off the old carpet!

So we got busy removing the old carpet. It didn't take too long maybe a couple of evenings to remove the carpet, tack strips and about a million staples! But it felt so good to see something happening and it's pretty telling when you look at the bare wood and think it's an improvement over the carpet.

All the carpet removed - what an improvement over that old crusty carpet!

Stay tuned and I will go into some more details on where we wanted to take the staircase, some of the products and techniques we used and the final reveal! Get in touch if you have any questions, I am certainly no expert but I don't mind sharing what I know if it can help.
